Release
Depence 4.1

Depence R4.1 is a free feature update for Depence R4, bringing a wide range of new capabilities, workflow improvements, and performance optimizations across the platform.
With R4.1, we have expanded Depence in several key areas, including a completely reworked video panel system, Area Light shadows and volumetrics, support for the Martin P3 protocol, enhanced NDI output capabilities, and many other improvements throughout the software.
Alongside these new features, R4.1 includes numerous fixes and optimizations designed to make everyday workflows faster, more flexible, and more reliable. It is one of the most substantial updates to Depence R4 so far.
Highlights

Depence R4.1 introduces a new procedural Video Panel object with configurable frames, grids and pixel settings for opaque and semi-transparent video walls. Integrated Area Lights provide realistic light emission directly from the panel.

Area Lights now support volumetric lighting, making their illumination visible in fog and haze for a more realistic atmospheric effect.

Area Lights now cast soft shadows with variable penumbra, creating more natural shadow transitions based on the light source size.

Virtual Camera Sources can now be sent directly via NDI, ideal for external screens, video workflows and hybrid show environments

Depence R4.1 takes the first step into AI-powered show design with its integrated MCP Server. AI assistants can access scene information and available fixtures to create lighting scenes, adjust lighting, and generate creative looks using natural language instructions. And this is just the beginning, laying the foundation for much more powerful AI capabilities in the future.

Depence R4.1 adds support for the Martin P3 protocol, allowing P3-controlled fixtures and video-driven lighting elements to be visualized directly within Depence. P3 content can now be integrated alongside traditional lighting control as part of the same show workflow.

Light emitters now remain more visible at greater distances, especially for small multi-LED spots, improving fixture readability in large scenes and wide camera views.

Volumetric beam rendering has been refined to reduce aliasing artifacts, especially around gobos, shadows and other fine beam details.

Spotlight shadows now provide higher detail, especially around contact areas, resulting in cleaner and more defined shadow transitions.

Planar reflections have been refined for more realistic results, especially on surfaces with higher roughness.

Depence R4.1 introduces new Formal and Casual Crowd objects with updated character styles. Crowd members can also hold up smartphones, allowing you to map the current viewport output directly onto their screens for even more realistic show visualizations.

New align and distribution tools make it easier to precisely position, space and organize multiple objects directly in the editor.

Materials now support UV rotation, while the Frontal Mapper tool can now also rotate the mapping for more flexible texture alignment.

The DMX input system has been redesigned and now supports universe numbers up to 32,768, providing greater flexibility for large and complex show networks.

Multi-LED fixtures can now optionally use simplified rendering on a per-fixture basis, helping improve performance in large or demanding scenes.

Depence R4.1 adds support for Sig-Net, a secure network protocol for transmitting DMX data. This allows Sig-Net based lighting systems to connect directly with Depence for visualization and control workflows.

The Plot editor now includes label offsets and rotations, copy & paste for plot items, improved truss representation, and many additional workflow enhancements.

The Programmer has been redesigned with layer support, faster workflows, and improved parameter organization and grouping for a clearer and more efficient programming experience.

Logic I/O has been improved with new labeling options, enhanced containers, and new commands including "Mute Depence" and "Release All" for more flexible show control.

In addition to Modbus UDP, Depence now also supports Modbus TCP for more flexible integration with external control systems.
General Improvements
Depence R4.1 brings numerous performance and workflow improvements, along with a wide range of bug fixes and refinements. The update focuses on making everyday work faster, smoother, and more reliable, while further improving the overall user experience across Depence.
